Five Faces Panel - Davis Canyon Utah
December 2014
Messages from the past on canyon walls.
The Five Faces Panel portrays figures that participated in the creation story of people who lived in and around what is now called Davis Canyon in southern Utah. They represent Spider Woman’s great grand daughters: Red Woman, Blue Woman, Yellow Woman, White Woman and Sun Youth. See Carol Patterson’s On the Trail of Spider Woman: Petroglyphs, Pictographs, and Myths of the Southwest. The images here begin with my photographs of the petroglyphs on the canyon wall and proceed through realistic oil paintings to completely abstract work in multi-media that I did over several years.
