Beware the Gilded Toad
I decided to paint my distress at experiencing a phenomenon which seems to be more and more acceptable in our culture – a huge disconnect between the way individuals and politicians present themselves and their true intentions. I experience the discrepancy not only as behavioral lying, but as doing so with the intent of causing harm to others. Like putting lipstick on a pig, gilding a toad does not disguise its true nature. With no disrespect intended to that animal, I chose it as a way to paint my pain and then attempt to make it glitter.
