For years I’ve had a fascination with the Burning Man event that is held in the Nevada desert every summer – not enough interest to do what it would take to get there, but enough to attend related art shows and watch videos about events and art that occur there. I started wondering what a feminine equivalent of Burning Man would be, and I came up with the idea of Soaring Woman. As I understand it, by building a monumental “man” temple in the desert and ultimately burning it, Burning Man creates opportunity to release the past and move on. That feels constructive to me. I’m thinking of the feminine version as more transcendent – moving through or rising above life’s struggles and blocks. It’s a self-motivating force where creative energy ascends and transforms.
